First we are strangers
you intrigue me; I'd like to
read more: I'll subscribe
hello, acquaintance--I look
forward to our comment threads
it feels like we have
been friends forever; I grant
you access to mine
tread softly, for you comment

'Tread softly...': W. B. Yeat's poem 'He wishes for the Clothes of Heaven' ends, "I have spread my dreams under your feet; /Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."
Dreamwidth splits relationships between users into two categories: access and subscribe. The former gives access to a user's locked posts; the latter simply consists of a subscription to whatever posts of one user are available to another. Thus, a user can subscribe to another user's posts without automatically giving that user access to the first user's locked posts.
